Jones: “Let’s say you have two high school, two middle schools, and five elementary schools, that’s nine schools. Under a one-tier system, each school has a bus arrive at 8:30 when school starts, so you have nine buses. That’s a one-tier system. Under a two-tier system, we have schools starting at different times. Instead of needing nine buses, you take four or five.” Jones: “We’ve already had some meetings on the southern peninsula and we plan on having more. We have a committee process and we’re going to talk about that and part of the process is we’re going to look at, ‘What does the research say on starting times? Should we be starting high schools later than elementary?’ And we’re going to fully involve the southern peninsula schools and parents and students in that conversation.” Officials say the change could save the District more than $500,000 a year on transportation costs. Jones says there will be no changes this school year, giving the community several months to weigh in on the suggestion. FacebookTwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享Meetings will be held in southern Kenai Peninsula communities next week, to discuss proposed changes to busing and school start times. The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District’s Assistant Superintendent Dave Jones says schools from Ninilchik south may transition to a two-tier busing system, to cut transportation costs… A public meeting will be held in Ninilchik on November 1, at the Homer High School on November 2, and in Anchor Point on November 10.
