Premier League team of the weekend: Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea stars feature

first_img 11 11 11 11 Right back: Phil Bardsley (Burnley) – He may not have been the best player in the match, but his goal line clearance from Lewis Dunk ensured Burnley kept another clean sheet. It was the game-defining moment. 11 Centre midfield: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Liverpool) – Arguably his best performance in a Liverpool shirt, Oxlade-Chamberlain was deployed in a midfield three and dominated his opposition. Was unfortunate to not score in Liverpool’s excellent victory. 11 Centre back: Ben Mee (Burnley) – Another superb showing from one of the most unheralded players of the Premier League season. He won eight aerial duels to prevent numerous Brighton attacks. Left back: Marcos Alonso (Chelsea) – Scorer of one of the best free-kicks of the season against Southampton, Alonso made the match-winning impact to keep the Blues in third place. Another weekend of Premier League action has been and gone, and Manchester City remain at the top of the table.Their destruction of Tottenham, by a 4-1 scoreline, keeps Pep Guardiola’s side 11 points ahead of second-placed Manchester United after 18 matches.United themselves claimed a victory, beating West Brom, while there were also wins for Champions League-chasing Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. But who makes talkSPORT’s Premier League team of the weekend? Click the right arrow, above, to find out… 11 Centre midfield: Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield Town) – Ran the midfield as Huddersfield destroyed Watford 4-1, chipping in with two goals to cap his superb display. Forward: Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace) – Led the line alongside Christian Benteke as Palace defeated Leicester. He scored one of their three goals, and was a menace throughout. This is the best football Zaha has ever played. Centre midfield: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) – Another world class performance from the Premier League’s best player of the season. He was a joy to watch against Spurs, and appeared a level above everyone else on the field of play. Left forward: Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool) – The superstar of Liverpool’s attack against Bournemouth. Coutinho scored one goal, assisted another, and hit the post with a superb free-kick. Centre back: James Collins (West Ham United) – Collins, the Wales defender, has appeared a shadow of his former self for much of the season, but he was back to his best against Stoke. He was a solid presence as part of West Ham’s back three. 11 11 Goalkeeper: Ederson (Manchester City) – click the right arrow to see the rest of the team of the weekend – Though he did concede against Spurs, Ederson put in an absolute masterclass of modern-day goalkeeping. His ability to play out from the back is surpassed by only Manuel Neuer. 11 Right forward: Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) – Picked up another two goals in Man City’s destruction of Spurs, continuing his fine season in front of goal. It was not his best performance of the season by any means, but to keep up his goalscoring form when not playing brilliantly is the sign of a star. 11last_img read more
