11 11 5. Danny Rose (left back) – Danny Rose has started to nail down the left-back spot for his country after a series of imposing displays for Spurs. With Luke Shaw struggling for fitness and Kieron Gibbs unable to get a start for Arsenal, Rose has seized his opportunity down the left-hand side. 11 3. Michael Keane (centre back) – Southgate knows Keane well from his time as England Under-21 boss. Since being frozen out of Manchester United, the 23-year-old has found his feet at Burnley. The youngster has established himself as one of the brightest talents in English football at Turf Moor. Southgate could hand him his international debut on Saturday in place of the injured Phil Jagielka. 11 1. Joe Hart (goalkeeper) – check out the full line up by clicking the arrow above, right – After being dumped by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Hart boldly went to Turin looking for games. After a shaky start, the 29-year-old has impressed between the sticks so much so that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been spotted reportedly scouting the keeper ahead of a potential swoop. Expect him to remain Southgates no.1 during his short tenure. 11 11 11 11. Marcus Rashford (striker) – It was only last month that Rashford scored a superb hat trick on his debut for Southgates under-21 side. Having seen the starlet up close and personal, the interim boss may well reward Manchester Uniteds player of the month with an opportunity to terrorise defences on the senior international stage. 4. John Stones (centre back) – Under Pep Guardiola, Stones has combined composure on the ball with solid defensive performances, while eradicating the errors which dogged his Everton career. With England expected to dominate possession on Saturday evening, Southgate may look to the 22-year-old to utilise his impressive passing range and technique to start attacks. 9. Dele Alli (attacking midfield) – The meteoric rise of Dele Alli doesnt show any signs of stopping. The young midfielder silenced his doubters with a spectacular goal-scoring display against Manchester City before the international break. Almost a year after his England debut, Allis ability to drift between the lines could prove essential. 11 11 6. Eric Dier (centre midfield) – After a positional switch at the start of last season, Eric Dier has emerged a stalwart for club and country. Mauricio Pochettinos decision to move the former centre-half into midfield has proved to be an inspired one. Like his Spurs teammate Walker, Dier left France in the summer with his head held high. 11 11 2. Kyle Walker (right back) – Despite the surprise inclusion of Glen Johnson in the squad, Walker was always going to start on the right-hand side of defence. One of the very few to leave Euro 2016 with their reputation unscathed, the Tottenham Hotspur defender should continue to star for his country in place of the injured Nathaniel Clyne. Gareth Southgate takes charge of England this Saturday for the first time since his appointment as Sam Allardyce’s temporary replacement. The 46-year-old will lead his country out at Wembley in a World Cup qualifier against Malta, perhaps hoping that a positive performance will boost his chances of landing the role on a permanent basis. After a rather turgid performance against Slovenia last month, Southgate will be out to inject some much needed excitement into the England side. With the odds stacked against the Mediterranean minnows, Southgate may well look to experiment with his squad and bleed in some new talent to a squad that flopped at last summer’s European Championships. Here, talkSPORT has assembled a side that could start on Saturday night. Click the arrow above, right, to view the potential starting XI. 10. Theo Walcott (left wing) – Like Townsend, Walcott has started the season on fire and done enough to earn an international recall. Five goals already from the wing is a great return, and his electric pace will cause the Maltese defence numerous problems. 8. Andros Townsend (right wing) – The Crystal Palace wingers scintillating form at club level has resulted in the end of his international exile. Townsends direct approach could prove crucial on Saturday against a resolute Malta side. His confidence to take on a shot from almost anywhere, with either foot, means he should just about edge out in-form Jesse Lingard. 7. Wayne Rooney (centre midfield) – How do you solve a problem like Wayne Rooney? The Manchester United captain is in a state of limbo for club and country. Seemingly no one not even Rooney himself knows his best position. Despite being benched by Jose Mourinho for the Red Devils, Southgate looks set to pick the 30-year-old, in midfield no less. The interim boss confirmed Rooney would remain as England skipper, meaning Jordan Henderson will have to wait his turn to reclaim his midfield position.
ACTON – The Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District school board will appoint a new member to fill a vacancy on the panel created when a board member left for Texas. The board will interview applicants in a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Meadowlark Elementary School, and members of the public are encouraged to participate. “I think the board would be looking for … someone who’s focused on children, who has an interest in education and who wants to see good things happen (for the district),” said Superintendent Stan Halperin. A vacancy on the five-member board was created in mid-August with the departure of Cindi Oberhansley. At that time, the appointed board member will need to run for election. The board could have held a special election in March for the position, but school officials determined that that would cost too much. The school district asked those interested in applying for the position to send a written letter of interest describing their background. Sending a resume is optional. The letters of interest must be sent by the end of the business day Sept. 15 to: Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District, 32248 Crown Valley Road, Acton, CA 93510.
