NWC Moves to Improve Negril Water Supply

first_imgNWC Moves to Improve Negril Water Supply EnvironmentApril 4, 2013 FacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmail The National Water Commission (NWC) has embarked on several measures to improve water delivery in the Negril area during the short term, and to develop additional sources within 18 months. This was announced by Minister of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Robert Pickersgill, while addressing hoteliers and other stakeholders at a function held at Breezes Negril, on April 3.The meeting was held by the Minister to outline strategies being employed by the NWC to alleviate the difficulties being experienced by residents and businesses during the drought affecting the island. One of the measures, the Minister said, is that the NWC is aggressively trying to deal with leaks as they are indentified on the system.Mr. Pickersgill said the NWC is also trying to ensure the effective implementation of a schedule, to ensure that all customers receive some water at least every other day for at least eight hours, and that the Commission is already paying $9 million monthly for the trucking of water, from which it recovers no revenue.“A new loading bay has been established along the Sheffield main road, to reduce the time, cost and difficulties involved in the legal trucking of water, and this is to be fully operational later this week,” the Minister informed.“We are appealing to persons not to support the illegal extraction of water from the system, as this practice is only making a bad situation worse. Furthermore, the quality of water delivered in trucks that are not known to have been sterilized, cannot be guaranteed,” he stated.Other measures to improve water supply in the Negril area are the addition of two Rapid Response trucks; and work currently taking place at the Great River Treatment Plant to get the facility to produce its maximum of 15 million gallons per day, to boost the Logwood system. The Minister said for the longer term, work will be done to expand the water production capacity of the Martha Brae Treatment Plant from 6 million gallons per day to 11 million, as part of the process of having more water on the North Coast to distribute westwards. “This project is scheduled to be completed in about 18 months,” he added.Mr. Pickersgill said that surveyors are currently working in the town of Lucea on preparatory works for an improved pipeline network through the town, to allow for water from the Great River Treatment Plant to come as far as Green Island, and for water from the Logwood Treatment Plant to be dedicated to serving Negril.By Garfield Angus, JIS reporter RelatedNWC Moves to Improve Negril Water Supply RelatedNWC Moves to Improve Negril Water Supplycenter_img RelatedNWC Moves to Improve Negril Water Supply Advertisementslast_img read more

Culture, Not Biology, Shapes Language

first_imgNPR:There’s no language gene. There’s no innate language organ or module in the human brain dedicated to the production of grammatical language. There are no meaningful human universals when it comes to how people construct sentences to communicate with each other. Across the languages of the world (estimated to number 6,000-8,000), nouns, verbs, and objects are arranged in sentences in different ways as people express their thoughts. The powerful force behind this variability is culture. So goes the argument in Language: The Cultural Tool, the new book I’m reading by Daniel Everett. Next week, I’ll have more to say about the book itself; this week, I want to explore how Everett’s years of living among the Pirahã Indians of Amazonian Brazil helped shape his conclusions — and why those conclusions matter.Read the whole story: NPR More of our Members in the Media >last_img read more

Galloway Mountain Rescue Team Praised For Bravery’ & ‘Dedication’

first_imgGalloway Mountain Rescue Team in Action AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterTwitterShare to LinkedInLinkedInLinkedInEmma Harper MSP has praised the ‘bravery’ and ‘dedication’ of the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team following a Parliamentary debate on the legacy of moutaineer, Sir Hugh Munro, who was the first person to chart Scotland’s highest mountains over 3,000 feet, now named the ‘Munros’. While South Scotland doesn’t have any Munros, it has plenty of mountains and hills called ‘Corbetts’ and ‘Donalds’ which attract thousands of visitors each year, on which mountain rescue teams can be required to save hillwalkers who are injured or in distress. The South Scotland MSP highlighted the work of Newton Stewart’s Galloway MRT, which was formed in 1975 and have responded to over 420 incidents, including one as recently as the 9th March. Ms. Harper said: “I would like to say thank you to Scotland’s mountain rescue teams. In the South West we have the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team, a charity in Newton Stewart which provides rescue services in the Dumfries & Galloway and South Ayrshire area.“Like other mountain rescue teams, Galloway MRT is a charity run by volunteers who give up their own time and when called upon put their life in danger to rescue those who are injured or in distress in our mountains and hills.“I would encourage everyone to visit their website to learn more about their work and to read about how to keep safe in the hills.”Speaking after the debate she added:“I commend the bravery and dedication of Scotland’s mountain rescue teams, including those in my South Scotland Region such as Galloway MRT, Moffat MRT and the Border Search and Rescue Unit.“I would encourage constituents to follow the advice of mountain rescue services in ensuring the right clothing and equipment is taken on any hill or mountain hike, and to take a map and compass as well. Weather conditions on Scotland’s hills can change very quickly and can be extremely challenging to navigate for even the most experienced of hillwalkers and climbers. Please visit the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team website for more information on how to stay safe when accessing our beautiful countryside.”last_img read more

New Z-Wave Long Range Spec Offers 4x Wireless Range and 10x Node Scalability for Larger Network Support

first_imgThe Z-Wave Alliance, a standards organization dedicated to developing and advancing the Z-Wave® wireless smart home protocol, announced the new Z-Wave Long Range (Z-Wave LR) specification.Engineered to provide significantly extended wireless range and support robust networks, Z-Wave LR extends Z-Wave connectivity beyond the interior boundaries of the home to improve wireless transmission range of peripheral Z-Wave devices such as door locks, garage door sensors, gate access solutions, and more, while increasing scalability to over 2000 nodes on a single smart home network.Developed and managed by the new Z-Wave Alliance Technical & Certifications workgroup, Z-Wave LR ushers in a new era of Z-Wave connectivity and brings expanded options for the smart home, multi-dwelling units and hospitality use cases.Increased Coverage To ensure complete home or building coverage, or to expand the network into the yard, most Z-Wave installations today leverage Z-Wave repeaters to strengthen and expand coverage. Z-Wave LR eliminates the need for a repeater within the network by increasing the transmission range found in Z-Wave. Increased range unlocks new potential for Z-Wave networks, making it easier than ever before to enroll smart home and IoT devices deployed at the end of the yard or beyond for enhanced functionality.Increased ScalabilityAs the average number of installed smart home devices continues to increase, so too does the strain on the network. To support the upward trend in the number of sensor and IoT devices within homes and MDU environments, Z-Wave LR also increases scalability on a single smart home network to over 2000 nodes – a 10x increase from Z-Wave.Optimized Battery Life With dynamic power control to optimize operation, Z-Wave LR increases typical sensor use cases on a coin cell battery up to ten years.Interoperability and Backwards Compatibility As with all certified Z-Wave devices, Z-Wave LR devices can be installed within any Z-Wave network and feature interoperability and backwards compatibility with any previously installed Z-Wave device.Certification   The Z-Wave LR specification will be managed and certified under the Z-Wave Plus V2 certification program, which currently mandates the inclusion of the enhanced S2 security framework as well as SmartStart, a setup feature that enables true plug and play for the consumer smart home. Mitchell Klein, Executive Director, Z-Wave Alliance stated that the Z-Wave LR specification is the first of many technical developments to come from within the new Alliance standards development organizational structure. As smart home networks continue to grow, mature, and add more complex devices, there is a need for more robust technology to support them. With Z-Wave LR, they are building upon Z-Wave’s legacy of strong networks by supporting more devices in a home or building with increased node counts and greater range. It’s more important than ever that IoT devices live on strong, reliable networks, and they are excited to support this with the latest Z-Wave specification.Technical details and an introduction to Z-Wave Long Range was highlighted in a session at Works With by Silicon Labs Virtual Conference on September 9-10, 2020.Click here to know about Z-Wave technologylast_img read more

Fake GPS, Jurus Pengemudi Online Akali Order Pelanggan

Meski begitu, ada aplikasi fake GPS yang bisa digunakan tanpa smartphone harus di root terlebih dahulu, yakni Fly GPS.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading… RelatedDuh!
