Over forty (40) passengers arrived on that flight LI581 at Douglas Charles Airport at 8:14AM on Friday 18 September including International Relief Coordinator, Baroness Patricia Scotland, while forty-two (42) passengers left on the return flight.“It is the first scheduled passenger flight, and we hope that more will continue so that persons coming to and from Dominica, it would be a lot easier for them,” Senator Tonge told Dominica Vibes on Friday.The Douglas Charles Airport was ravaged by storm waters from Tropical Storm Erika on 27 August 2015 which now requires a replacement for all equipment, estimated at a cost of 39.5 million dollars to fully restore the facility.Earlier this week Chief Executive Officer of LIAT, David Evans applauded the government and people of Dominica for their resilience and tireless efforts to get the country back to a state of normalcy following the storm.LIAT flight LI581 (Photo courtesy: The Office of the Prime Minister)LIAT will increase to two daily flights from Saturday September 19.Effective Saturday, September 19, LI 364 will depart Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados at 14:20 daily, arriving at the Douglas-Charles Airport at 15:20. On Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday the service continues to Guadeloupe and Antigua arriving at 16:25 and 17:20 respectively. On Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the service continues non-stop to Antigua, departing Dominica at 16:00 and arriving in Antigua at 16:40.Though much effort has been made to restore the facility, all night flights in and out of Dominica remain suspended until further notice.last_img
