first_imgBrighton to bid for Preston defender Ben Daviesby Paul Vegas19 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveBrighton are to offer for £10million-rated Preston defender Ben Davies. The Seagulls have been sending their top scouts to watch the elegant Davies, who is an English ball player, says The Sun.That ticks two boxes for Brighton boss Graham Potter, who has emerged as the frontrunner to sign Davies despite interest from Newcastle, Everton and Wolves.Insiders say Brighton will try their luck with a bid in January, although Preston would look for a seven- figure fee.North End plan to offer Davies a new deal but the Championship promotion chasers know how hard it is to keep a player when a Premier League club comes calling. 15 days agoLiverpool coach Achterberg: Alisson has changed Anfield mindset

first_imgLiverpool coach Achterberg: Alisson has changed Anfield mindsetby Ansser Sadiq15 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool coach John Achterberg has many positive things to say about the club’s no.1 goalkeeper Alisson Becker. The Brazilian joined last summer from the Reds on the back of high profile howlers from their top two keepers the previous season. He came in and immediately showed his quality, with the club winning the Champions League in his first campaign. And coach Achterberg believes Alisson’s presence has made the Anfield crowd positive about the team’s defence.”I was convinced that if we are going to spend money then Alisson was the No.1 I would sign,” he told the Liverpool Echo.”Obviously what he has done up to now, it has worked out. You’re looking around at the way we play and his movements and you have to say he is the No.1.”Looking at Premier League level, he has worked out this move himself with the qualities he has shown over the years. Obviously these moves need to come off, because you look at David de Gea (at Manchester United), it took one or two years before he was at his level and had the trust.”He only came back into the Manchester United side because the other goalkeeper got injured.”So you don’t have a lot of time to settle because the talking is there all the time and I think Ali and the boss have changed the way the crowd are really with the way they manage and play. Now the crowd is positive from the first second and are not worried if the ball is in the air or the box.” About the authorAnsser SadiqShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

New Details Have Emerged From Urban Meyer’s Deleted Text Messages

first_imgA closeup of Urban Meyer during an Ohio State football game.GLENDALE, AZ – JANUARY 01: Head coach Urban Meyer of the Ohio State Buckeyes on the sidelines during the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at University of Phoenix Stadium on January 1, 2016 in Glendale, Arizona. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)New details have emerged concerning the alleged deleted text messages on Urban Meyer’s phone. Messages were allegedly deleted prior to Ohio State’s investigation into its head coach for his handling of domestic violence allegations against now-fired assistant coach Zach Smith.Meyer, of course, has been suspended for the first three games of the 2018 season as a result of the investigation. He’s one game into that suspension. Meyer has already been able to return to practice.USA TODAY published today an update on the deleted text messages. Here is the latest:Nobody involved is answering questions about it now, two weeks after his three-game suspension was announced by Ohio State. Not Ohio State. Not Meyer’s legal team. Not the lead investigator in the case.Over the past 10 days, USA TODAY Sports asked each: Was Meyer asked if he deleted text messages on his phone? If so, how did he respond? And if Ohio State didn’t ask him about this, why not?The lone response came from Ohio State spokesman Chris Davey, who said Tuesday he was looking into it but didn’t know if he was going to be able to answer it.Questions have emerged about the legality of Urban Meyer’s alleged deleting of text messages. He allegedly discussed the concept of deleting text messages with one of his right-hand men at Ohio State. It’s unclear if Urban Meyer was asked about any deleted text messages by Ohio State during the investigation and/or why he did it. It’s also unclear if we’re going to learn anything further about this.Still, it’s clear that questions are going to continue to be asked. And, at a certain point, Meyer is probably going to have to answer them.Ohio State is set to host Rutgers on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. E.T. on BTN.last_img read more

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum Is Trashing 1 Head Coach Today

first_imgESPN's Paul Finebaum.Twitter/@MikeAndMikeESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum is not happy with how a major college head coach has handled his team’s quarterback situation.No. 2 Georgia, which fell in an upset loss at LSU on Saturday night, stuck with sophomore Jake Fromm behind center, despite calls from many to play true freshman Justin Fields. The Bulldogs’ offense struggled greatly against the Tigers’ defense.Finebaum said this morning that head coach Kirby Smart has “blown” it.“I’m not bailing on Georgia, but it’s very tempting,” Finebaum said this morning, per 247Sports. “They still have a chance. I don’t believe they will get to the Playoffs this year because I think Kirby Smart has blown the quarterback situation. It’s time to make the move. Jake Fromm has proven he’s not an elite passer in the big games. We saw that against Alabama and we saw that again yesterday. Look what they have left — Florida and Kentucky is more challenging than people (think). Auburn, forget that one.“If they get to Atlanta, they’re not beating Alabama.”Georgia’s offense does feature a ton of talent, but it really struggled to do anything on Saturday against the Tigers.Smart did not reveal after the game that a change was coming, but it’s possible the Bulldogs’ head coach will consider making a move.Stay tuned.last_img read more

Kane Williamson thrilled after New Zealand use potent weapon perfectly vs India

first_imgKane Williamson thrilled after New Zealand use potent weapon perfectly vs IndiaIndia vs New Zealand: Kane Williamson lauded his bowlers for exploiting the conditions in Hamilton after New Zealand hammered India by 8 wickets. Trent Boult picked 5 for 21 to bowl India out for their 7th lowest ODI total before Ross Taylor scored 37 not out off 25 balls to secure victory for the Black Caps.advertisement India Today Web Desk HamiltonJanuary 31, 2019UPDATED: January 31, 2019 12:00 IST India vs New Zealand: Kane Williamson was pull of praise for his star bowler Trent Boult (@ICC Photo)HIGHLIGHTSKane Williamson was happy his bowlers could get the ball to swing vs India in HamiltonTrent Boult’s five-wicket haul bowled India out for their 7th lowest ODI totalWilliamson now wants New Zealand to improve further against IndiaBrief Scores: New Zealand (93/2) beat India (92) by 8 wickets. Taylor (37*), Nicholls (30*), Bhuvneshwar (2/25) (SCORECARD) New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson said he had no idea the Hamilton pitch would afford as much swing as it did in the fourth ODI against India. Trent Boult picked his fifth five-wicket haul as India were bowled out for 92, their seventh lowest total in one-day internationals.New Zealand chased down the paltry target of 93 with 8 wickets and 212 balls or 35.3 overs to spare. This was India’s heaviest defeat in terms of balls left. Without Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni in the line-up, the Indian batting line-up was completely exposed after openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were dismissed early. After New Zealand had lost the third ODI on Monday, Williamson had said India were teaching his men a lesson. Three days later, the Black Caps bouned back to show they had learnt their lesson well. The series is lost but aided by swing, New Zealand played for pride and delivered.”We didn’t expect the surface to behave like this. Nice to restrict them to a 90-odd total. It stood up a little bit and nipped a bit. It spun as well. One of those days, things went well,” Willimason said at the post-match presentation.”Credit to the areas the guys bowled. We always wanted early wickets, to be able to that was a real step at the right direction. It was swinging, that was a weapon we wanted to use.It was just one of those days where things went our way and we were able to exploit the conditions with the ball. – Kane Williamson #NZvIND pic.twitter.com/8eaFlr4pYEadvertisementBLACKCAPS (@BLACKCAPS) January 31, 2019″Because we were able to put India under pressure, we were able to pick regular wickets. We exploited the conditions really well and chased down nicely as well. We always play to win and today was an outstanding performance,” Williamson said.India and New Zealand now travel to Wellington for the fifth and final ODI on Sunday. The Black Caps will hope for another win to end the series with a respectable margin of 3-2.”We’ll be on a different surface at Wellington. Cricket will be different. Great to have a win today… Against a team like India, it’s going to be a strong challenge. He (Henry Nicholls) played beautifully, it was challenging. Guptill whacked it around and other guys chipped in well. This is an opportunity to play against best team in the world – great opportunity to improve,” he said.Trent Boult was named man-of-the-match for his figures of 5 for 21. He said it was pleasing to exploit the conditions as well as he did. “It was nice to see the bowling swinging…. To make the most of the conditions was very pleasing. Colin de Grandhomme from the other end bowled ten overs on-the-trot as well. It was Nice to bowl them out cheaply. It’s pretty simple on a wicket like this. Pitch it up and target the stumps. We will put on a similar performance hopefully in the next game and make it 3-2.”For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
